I was on Cloud Nine. Then my Phone Rang.

This was the day my castle collapsed.

I had one big client on a $7k/mo retainer.

I was Generating millions in revenue for them.

My inbox was full of praise.

I was “that guy.”

The one who did it all himself.

The lone wolf. The solopreneur.

But castles built alone are castles built on sand, and I learned that the hard way.

Because one day the phone rang…

"We’ve been acquired. They’ve got an internal team. Effective immediately, your services are no longer needed."

90% of my revenue evaporated like mist.

$50,000 in debt with no lifeline.

I thought I was strong for carrying it all.

Truth is, I was fragile. Because I was alone.

I nearly crawled back to a job I hated.

All because I believed the biggest lie in entrepreneurship:

That you can do it alone.

And when the storm came…

I fell. Hard.

They sell you the dream of ‘Solopreneurship’

Freedom”, they say.

You know what it is in reality? A beautifully wrapped coffin.

You wear every hat. You make every decision. You bear every burden. And when things go south, you face it alone.

The symptoms are everywhere:

  • Spinning plates, praying none of them fall.

  • Waking up in cold sweats at 3AM, re-checking emails.

  • No backup plan.

  • No one to challenge your ideas - just an echo chamber that grows louder, more chaotic, more desperate.

  • Exhaustion you convince yourself is ‘grind mode.’

  • Paralysis disguised as perfectionism.

  • Self-doubt creeping in like poison.

And here’s the cruel part: The world cheers you on while you burn.

"Let’s F*ckin Go!" they say.

If you’re reading this feeling that pit in your stomach…

That creeping sense that you’re doing it all alone and it’s slowly eating you alive…

Good.

For the past year, I’ve mentored 41 agency ownersq.

Over half of them have tripled in size.

Why? Because I’ve helped them tap into:

  1. People who hand them battle-tested playbooks, not recycled Twitter threads.

  2. Partners who send referrals before they even ask.

  3. Allies who see the blind spots before they trip over them.

  4. Opportunities that never show up from cold emails - only in conversations with the right people.

And as a result, I’ve watched them:

  • Close deals in hours that they struggled for months to land.

  • Solve million-dollar problems in one conversation.

  • Become bolder, sharper, and more dangerous

All because they finally had people in their corner who refused to let them play small.

So let me make this simple:

You are one partnership away from changing everything.

  • One referral away from landing your biggest client.

  • One collaboration away from doubling your revenue.

  • One introduction away from tapping into opportunities you can’t even see right now.

This week, get the ball rolling.

  1. Reach out to three people who serve your market.

Goal: Define exactly who you want to build partnerships with further down the line.

  1. Start with value - offer help, open doors, make introductions.

Goal: become the person who brings solutions, not asks for favours. People remember who helped them win.

  1. Set up calls not to pitch, but to ask questions.

Goal: Build real relationships, not transactional ones.

  1. And do this every single day from now on.

Goal: Build a habit of connection that compounds over time.

That’s all it takes.

And that’s how empires are built - not with hacks, not with hustle alone - but one conversation at a time.

Crazy, right?

Yours truly,

-Nigel Thomas
